What's in a Name?

When I decided to start this blog, choosing a name was at the top of my to-do list. Top contenders included “The Boobie Blog” (google it and you’ll see why that didn’t make the cut), and “The AMA Mama” – AMA being for Advanced Maternal Age. I also considered “Parenting from the Couch” :D

Yep, that’s me. Like lots of parents today, I got a later start at this game. My kids were born when I was 36 and 37, after meeting my now husband when I was 34. And it’s HARD. And Exhausting. I could say that I was busy focusing on building my career, and it would be partly true – I love my day job and am decently successful. But the rest of the truth is that I had to kiss a lot of frogs before choosing the right frog for me (he's not a prince since I'm not a princess, there's no way they fart the same way as me after eating brussel sprouts).

And while I am clearly no expert on this whole parenting thing (is anyone?), I hope that you’ll follow along as I endeavor to go through this journey with humour, levity, lots of love, and (dare I hope?), a little bit of grace.

The tiny humans that challenge me every day will be center to this blog, but my goal is to reach out to all the moms out there who feel like they are alone in this ocean of ‘motherhood’. You’re not. So my hope is that in sharing some of my experiences, you see a little of yourself in there and find comfort in that. And maybe a laugh or two along the way (because kids are kinda gross and funny, and sometimes things get ridiculous).

P.S. I finally settled on Mimi Mama because, even though I became a Mama later in life, I was ‘Mimi’ to hoards of nieces and nephews and godchildren (ok, maybe not hoards but quite a few!) long before that. And raising my kids alongside all these cousins and friends means that they have a beautiful village that both helps me, and is moulding them into some pretty awesome little humans. Win Win.
